Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo (enrolled for MBBS)

Nov 2014 - Aug 2019

Overview

After achieving a merit rank at the G.C.E. Advanced Level, I enrolled in the MBBS programme at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo - Sri Lanka's oldest medical school, founded in 1870 as the Colombo Medical School, and part of the University of Colombo, currently ranked Sri Lanka's #1 university in both the QS and Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026. A long-held passion for computer science eventually pulled my career pathway towards computing, but the years I spent at the Faculty left a lasting mark: learning human anatomy and physiology, how to reason through a diagnosis, how to treat disease, and - just as importantly - how to treat the person in front of you, with empathy, care, and compassion. That clinical grounding, hands-on exposure, and skillset still shape how I approach bioinformatics today, with a constant emphasis on diagnostic accuracy and patient impact.
